White: Molamatta 2006, Marco Felluga, Collio – Northern Italy.
Marco Felluga is a leading exponent of modern Collio, offering wines of intensity and purity, including this lightly oaked and beautifully textured blend of Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Pinot Bianco known as ‘Molamatta’.
Intermediate:
White: Masianco Venezie IGT 2007, Masi, Veneto – Northern Italy.
An exciting blend of Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo from one of Italy’s leading producers, the palate is soft and full-bodied, with flavours of ripe apples and a slight touch of honey.
Or
White: Condesa Eylo 2007, Condesa Eylo, Rueda – Spain.
Some of the best value wines of Spain come from Rueda. Made from the Verdejo grape, unique to the region, the wine leaps from the glass with Sauvignon like grapefruit and grass aromas; fresh in the mouth, with some creamy breadth, tapering to a thirst-quenching finish.
Main Course:
Red: Chateau Montaiguillon 2004, Montagne-Saint Emilion, Bordeaux – France.
From the classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon comes an expressive nose of roasted plums, dried herbs and fresh earthy notes leading to a medium-full, currant-infused palate of both breadth and focus.
Or
Red: Mas d’en Catala 2003, Mas d’en Catala, Priorat – Spain.
Deliciously concentrated fruit from this tiny, fabled region of Spain: blackberries and raspberries abound alongside vanilla and cinnamon nuances from the oak, surely the best value quality Priorat made today.
Dessert:
Sweet: Maury “Aurelie” 2005, Le Preceptorie de Centernach, Roussillon – France.
This Grenache based wine is always a showstopper! A gush of fresh raspberries, sugar and cream on a palate, the finish is super soft and sweetly exhilarating.
